“The Blair Witch Project” (1999) was a game-changer in the world of horror, reinventing the found footage genre and sparking endless debates about its authenticity. However, the sequel, “Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2,” came crashing down like a poorly constructed twig structure in the Black Hills Forest.

Tobe Hooper’s “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre” (1974) was a gritty and nightmarish portrayal of a group of friends who encounter a family of cannibalistic killers. However, “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation” took a different route, and not in a good way.
Starring a young Renée Zellweger and Matthew McConaughey, this sequel felt like an incoherent mishmash of ideas. It lacked the raw terror of the original and replaced it with a bizarre mix of comedy and confusion. Leatherface’s iconic chainsaw deserved better treatment than this.
Fortunately for the franchise, a seemingly endless stream of sequels have been released since 1995, and things have (slightly) improved.
The original “Paranormal Activity” (2007) revitalized the found footage genre and created a new wave of supernatural horror. However, by the time “Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension” came along, the franchise had lost its way.
The film attempted to tie up loose ends in the series by explaining the origin of the paranormal activity through a mysterious old camera. Unfortunately, it felt like a desperate attempt to milk the franchise dry. The scares were tired, and the plot was convoluted, leaving fans longing for the simpler terrors of the original.
