Turns out, not only should you not rely on AI generated responses for anything important, but Google’s Bard making stuff up is not at all uncommon. I was curious about a company by the name of Brookfield Corporation (ticker symbol BN) & one of its subsidiaries, Brookfield Property Partners LP. After Google’s Bard AI provided me with a quick overview, I decided to ask what the ticker symbol is for the subsidiary. Bard proceeded to just make one up (BPY), along with putting it randomly in the S&P 500.
A quick failed search, along with knowledge that the parent company is Canadian had me a little confused.
I guess the moral of this story is don’t trust AI just yet … just like you wouldn’t (…or shouldn’t) trust the first 1-3 random google results your (probably partially biased) search keywords return.
