Oklahoma

Least Favorite: Texas

Oklahoma and Texas have a longstanding rivalry, most notably exhibited in the annual “Red River Showdown” football game between the University of Oklahoma and the University of Texas. Beyond sports, disputes over water rights from the Red River and differing cultural and political views often come to the forefront. Both states also have a rich history tied to the Old West, leading to debates over authentic cowboy culture.

Oregon

Least Favorite: California

Oregonians often express concerns about Californians relocating to their state, bringing with them rising property prices and potential cultural shifts. The two states also compete over wine production, with each boasting internationally recognized wine regions. Additionally, debates about environmental policies, conservation, and resource management sometimes arise.

Pennsylvania

Least Favorite: New York

Pennsylvania, especially cities like Philadelphia, often finds itself competing with New York for cultural and historical recognition. Sports rivalries, especially in baseball and football, are significant. Economic competition, particularly in industries like finance and media, also plays a role in their dynamic.

Rhode Island

Least Favorite: Connecticut

Being the two smallest states in the region, Rhode Island and Connecticut have a friendly rivalry concerning who truly embodies New England charm. They compete over seafood (particularly clam chowder varieties), beach tourism, and historical colonial relevance. Additionally, regional differences within New England sometimes lead to spirited debates between residents.

South Carolina

Least Favorite: North Carolina

From South Carolina’s perspective, the rivalry with its northern counterpart often centers on coastal tourism, cultural heritage, and historical significance. South Carolinians also take pride in their unique Gullah culture, low country cuisine, and historic cities like Charleston. The states further compete in sectors like finance and technology.
