South Dakota

Least Favorite: North Dakota

Echoing North Dakota’s sentiments, South Dakota also engages in friendly competition over tourism attractions, such as the Black Hills, Mount Rushmore, and the Badlands. Debates over historical figures, especially presidents like Teddy Roosevelt and their association with either state, are common. The states also share discussions about agricultural practices and Native American heritage.

Tennessee

Least Favorite: Kentucky

Apart from the whiskey rivalry mentioned earlier, Tennessee and Kentucky compete in music, especially when it comes to country and bluegrass genres. Both states claim a rich musical heritage. Additionally, debates over natural beauty, from the Appalachian Mountains to the rolling countrysides, come into play.

Texas

Least Favorite: Oklahoma

From the Texan perspective, the rivalry with Oklahoma remains rooted in sports, history, and cultural pride. Texans often pride themselves on the state’s large size, rich history, and distinct identity. Competition in sectors like oil and agriculture also influences their dynamic.

Utah

Least Favorite: Colorado

While Colorado views Utah as its rival primarily because of skiing, Utahns often see their state as holding the title for better winter sports locations. Additionally, the states share discussions about public land use, water rights, and differing socio-political views, particularly concerning issues like environmental conservation.

Vermont

Least Favorite: New Hampshire

While New Hampshire sees Vermont as its primary rival, Vermonters often pride themselves on their progressive policies, artisanal food products, and a strong sense of state identity. The Green Mountain State competes with New Hampshire over maple syrup production, ski tourism, and craft brewing.
